Welcome to Indie Music!

A blog all about indie music, both from the 80s and 90s as well as modern classics.  The site is not meant to be an encylopedia of bands, you can use Wikipedia for that!  What we will provide is a brief history and top tracks if you are looking to discover the bands of old and not so old who are influencing many of the indie bands of today.  Enjoy....

The Wedding Present - El Rey

The Wedding's Present's last excursion was El Rey and it saw the band in some fine form.  Of course, alot of the raw sound that we are used to from the likes of George Best and Seamonsters has gone, the sound is much more connected to the slick guitar sound we heard on Take Fountain.  Highlights include Spider Man on Hollywood and Model, Actress, Whatever, while the rather bizzare Soup is one that you'll definitely remember.  You can buy the tracks through Amazon and remember, the downloads are Ipod and itunes compatible....

Ride - a legendary indie band

There is a temptation to over-use the word 'under-rated' when it comes to indie bands.  After all, by their nature these are abnds who delivered lots of promsie but never got signed up by the big players, except in a few cases, and even then fortunes soon changed thereafter.  However, I always state that of all the udner-rated indie bands of the 1990s, Ride were truly criminally ignored before their own implosion due to artistic differences forced the band apart.

However, while they were together, they produced two fantastic albums.  The first 'Nowhere' is something of a shoegazing classic, with mass guitar distortion, a small amount of sampling and occasional incomprehensible lyrics.  The album brought us classis such as 'Dreams burn down' and indie kid favourite, Vapour Trail, featured below...

After this album, the band went onto to a slightlier poppier, anthemic feel, while keeping their feet firmly ensconced in indieville.  This led to to their second album 'Going Blank Again' which kicked off with the epic 'Leave them all behind'.....

The first side of this album definitely delivers track after top quality track. After this sadly, Ride began their demise and various members went off on to various projects, notably Andy Bell the bassist who went on to play with Oasis. But this is a band definitely worth looking up, as well as their albums look out for their early classic Chelsea Girl EP...
